With the rapid transformation of Taiwan's social and economic structure, children and adolescents are being exposed to diverse values and facing various challenges in the new era. Coupled with the changes in diverse family structures, many families have seen a sharp decline in their original functions, making them unable to fulfill their responsibilities of protecting and raising their children, and even becoming sources of harm to children. The increasing number of families, coupled with population movement, has led to the emergence of transnational and international families. The family functions that were once sufficient for childcare have gradually become insufficient. In addition, Taiwan has seen high unemployment and suicide rates in recent years, which have not only had a significant impact on children and adolescents within families but have also led to the emergence of many broken and dysfunctional families, orphaned and unattended children, and high-risk families where drug addiction has led to HIV infection, even affecting the next generation. The Kaohsiung Women and Children Department of the Taiwan Caring Home Association, a social organization, began caring for women and children in distress in 1994. The "Taiwan Caring Foundation," established in November 2011, has set up the "Kaohsiung Private Caring Home" in Kaohsiung to alleviate social burden.
The name "Zhi Zi Jia Yuan" originates from the tradition of naming each newborn baby after their mother, symbolizing "son of" or "daughter of". We believe that every child, regardless of their background, has the right to grow up healthy and safely. We hope that the children cared for at "Zhi Zi Jia Yuan" will be filled with love and care. Our greatest wish is that the children will never be separated again. "Taipei Private Zhi Zi Jia Yuan Affiliated to Taiwan Caring Foundation" was officially registered in February 2020, and in December of the same year, it expanded its capacity by adding 32 beds for the care of children aged 0 to 2 years.
